Roommate May Not Be Paying The Rent

Damn! Dude doesn't have a job, does extra work and "pet sitting" but
apparently not enough to get by paying the rent on the absolute
cheapest half an apartment in my city. I don't even think this dude
is
looking for a job.

The landlord didn't say anything to me when I gave him the rent. But
I
am getting nervous.

I don't know if this dude didn't pay all of it or any of it. I knew
he
owed the guy money but I thought it was because he went thru 2 non-
paying deadbeat roommates in a short period, and it totally messed
him
up.

I can't afford to move again, not only that I am just not
psychologically prepared for all the stress so soon after already
moving a few months ago.

Last time totally burned thru my savings and I haven't had a chance
to
build them up. Not to mention I am already used to paying just $500.
Most rooms are $100-200 more and a lot smaller than this one. And a
lot of people want me to split the cable bill. Which I refuse to do.
I
am not living this way just so I can watch television.

The thing that really sucks is that the dude is honest, laid back and
I don't get any bad vibes that he might rip me off or anything. So I
am not so ready to go into the unknown ag
in.

If this dude crashes and burns hopefully I can somehow keep this room
and get someone else in without being on the hook for the full
amount.
Again, this is a dump apartment that needs work, maybe the landlord
(a
real nice guy -probably too nice) will let me stay a month at just
$500 til I can find someone else to move in as a compromise for not
having to spend thousands getting this in market shape.

And even though this place is in his name, I wouldn't necessarily be
oppossed to getting rough and forcing the other guy out for my own
sense of security. I am paying my rent, I don't need the stress
because he isn't paying his. I do get mean and potentially violent
when I feel my lifestyle is at risk.

Oh, and now I will smoke pot if I want to and who cares if he doesn't
like it (the thing is I don't really want to anymore...)
