Second Continental Congress assembles as Ticonderoga falls

On this day in 1775, Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold lead a successful
attack on Fort Ticonderoga in upstate New York, while the Second
Continental Congress assembles in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Beavers help bail out Chrysler

Ottawa Ontario - Ottawa gives financially strapped Chrysler Canada $20
million in loan guarantees, and Ontario provides a $10 million grant;
the US also provided $1.5 billion in loans and subsidies to bail out
Chrysler Corp, the parent company. Under the leadership of Lee Iacocca,
the company will return to health and pay back the loans.

May 10, 1990:
China releases Tiananmen Square prisoners

The government of the People's Republic of China announces that it is
releasing 211 people arrested during the massive protests held in
Tiananmen Square in Beijing in June 1989. Most observers viewed the
prisoner release as an attempt by the communist government of China to
dispel much of the terrible publicity it received for its brutal
suppression of the 1989 protests.
