Refurb MacBook Pro laptop from Apple

After the new notebooks were announced, I noticed a couple posters here
mentioning they picked up a refurb'ed older MacBook with firewire,
optical drive, etc. that aren't on the newer models, including the
MacBook Air.

I ended up doing the same, although the deals were only like $200-$250
off the last listed price. I figured it was 'safer' than buying
something from Craigslist (lots of stuff listed but the sellers seemed
to be really flakey). And the system would qualify for AppleCare.

So the system arrives and I open the box (I had it shipped to my Apple
Store). There's just the system, power dongle, and some minimal
paperwork. No 10.6.6 boot disks, which the original system had.

For those out there that bought refurbs from Apple, is this typical? I
don't want to run Lion. I want the original disks. There's no coupon
to get them in the box.

I haven't booted or done anything with the system beyond opening the
box. It's going back to the Apple Store tomorrow until I get those
disks.

Computers purchased from Apple have Lion installed on them. Lion does
not come on discs.

Yes.

There are no original disks.

Good luck with that.

Footnote on the High Energy Magic building: It was here that the thaum,
hitherto believed to be the smallest possible particle of magic, was
successfully demonstrated to be made up of resons (lit: 'Thing-ies) or
reality fragments. Currently research indicates that each reson is
itself made up of a combination of at least five 'flavours', known as
'up', 'down', 'sideways', 'sex appeal' and 'peppermint'.

It probably has Lion on it; Apple puts the most recent version of the OS
that the hardware can run when it ships a product. The only exception is
for units that already had the previous version of the OS installed before
the new OS was released. In that case Apple offers free or minimal cost
upgrades.

I've heard reports of people in this situation calling Apple and getting
the original Snow Leopard install discs shipped out for a small shipping
fee. Good luck.
