In the past, Ron May, John Corliss and Bear have used
technological wizardry to fabricate statements by the Haberdasher
General, Frank-Lin and OVERCAT. They moved on to greener pastures:
Australia. John Fitzsimons is behind this.

Australian Death Threat Text Scam

July 25, 2012 at 10:13 am by SteveThePirate
texting

Starting on Monday, thousands of Australians were sent a text message
simultaneously stating that they would be murdered unless they paid up
five thousand Australian dollars (33,311). Police believe the fraud is
the work of an organized crime gang, although it is not known if they
are based in Australia, and are shocked by the scale of scam.

The text which read 1Sum1 paid me to kill you. Get spared, 48hrs to
pay $5000. If you inform the police or anybody, death is promised2
then directed you to a Yahoo mail account which police have now
disabled. Some people have already fallen to the scam and is believed
those are ones that have little experience with texts.

Police have also advised if anyone receives this message then to
delete it straight away and don2t panic as this is what they prey on.
